  4. stop on the round-the-world flight of Amelia Earhart and 
  5. Fred Noonan--they left Lae, New Guinea, for Howland Island, 
  6. but were never seen again; the airstrip is no longer serviceable.

  8. Ports: none; offshore anchorage only, one boat landing area 
  9. along the middle of the west coast.

  11. Note: Earhart Light is a day beacon near the middle of the 
  12. west coast that was partially destroyed during World War II, 
  13. but has since been rebuilt in memory of famed aviatrix 
  14. Amelia Earhart.
